Every August, Pebble Beach and the Monterey Peninsula is crawling with all types automotives gathered for car week. It all started with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This exciting event has now bloomed into more than a week’s full of car shows along the Monterey Peninsula. The entire week is dedicated to the beauty and technology of cars.
Throughout the week there are two major events, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Many other events are held in Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach and Carmel. There are half a dozen car shows, car auctions, and the historical car races held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Kicking off car week starts in our very own Carmel-by-the-Sea, with an event called Concours on the Avenue. This event is held right up and down Carmel’s famous Ocean Avenue from 10am to 5pm on Tuesday, August 15th. Sixteen blocks of downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea will showcase over 175 domestic and foreign collector vehicles.
This year marks the 10th year anniversary of Concours on the Avenue. Having dramatically improved staging every year, the event is one of a kind and hosts all sorts of cars: American, Foreign, Luxury, Muscle, Sporting, and even Hot Rods. While walking through town enjoying the event, the car owners are usually right nearby and love to tell you the story of their cars.
Although the event is judged. it is mostly for the fun of car week. The event is non-profit and all proceeds go to The Carmel Foundation. In Carmel, we really enjoy this event. It brings the crowd to us during car week, giving our great town a chance to shine. We also enjoy seeing all the cars that are brought in from around the world.
Not in town on Tuesday? Come on Thursday starting at 11:30am. Close to 200 cars, will be parking their vehicles on Ocean Avenue for people to enjoy. This is part of the 60 mile tour through the Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur coastline that the most unique and prestigious vehicles that are to be showcased at the world-famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance event held on Sunday. You can watch the Cars as they Parade through town and then get up close and examine them while the drivers are having lunch. A unique opportunity to see the show without paying for a ticket to Concours.
