What did you do today?

When our guests come back in the late afternoon to have a cookies and lemonade or warm cup of coffee or cocoa, we always ask them what they did during the day.  So, usually the common answer is, we went to the Beach, we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, we did the 17 mile drive or we hiked at Point Lobos.  All great things to enjoy, right?    Big Sur on a HarleyWell now,  today, when we asked this couple what they did, their answer was worth a blog post!

They said, we rented a Harley and drove down Highway 1 to Big Sur and back!
Wow,  now that’s an answer we weren’t expecting.  Who says we are all galleries and fancy restaurants.

I sure hope they take me with them next time.  Don’t they make baskets that mount on handlebars for kitties??

Another Sunny Day at Carmel Country Inn

Carmel lodging pet friendly

Yes indeed,  it’s another sunny, beautiful day in Carmel.  No need to go any further than our patio off the lobby kitchen to soak up the relaxing warm sunshine here in Carmel over this first official summer weekend.  It is so sunny,  I am squinting, as seen here in my photo.  The gals have a fresh Salinas Valley watermelon cut for all our arriving guests, and I even got some watermelon juice.  It’s almost as good as cantaloupe juice. Plan your summer getaway to our Carmel lodging now and be sure to slot in some time to hang out in the sun with me!

It’s Time to Plant Springtime Flowers in our Carmel Gardens

carmel ca gardeningThe gardeners have been hard at work this week planting all the pretty springtime flowers and I have been supervising.  It’s been warm and sunny and I just love the smell of potting soil.  Check out our Facebook Page to see a photo of the first roses of spring.  The Daffodils just finished blooming and now the Calla lilies, Alstromerias, Honeywort, Cinerarias, Impatiens, Camelias, Fuchsias (the Fuchsias are the humming birds favorites) the Jasmine blooms make me sneeze and so many other flowers are blooming in our Carmel gardens that I would have to get out the Sunset Western Garden book to name all of them.  The gals have been out to Carmel Valley to the flower nurseries there to select all the pretty spring colors.  Gotta go now and roll around in the sunshine.  Be sure to plan a trip soon to our Carmel Bed and Breakfast while all the pretty flowers are in full bloom!

Monterey County was just named top 10 in Wine Regions World Wide

Check out this press release by the Monterey County Visitors and Convention Bureau regarding Wine Enthusiast Magazine naming Monterey Wine Country top 10 in the world.  Don’t forget we have 12 tasting rooms here in Carmel-by-the-Sea, walking distance from our Pet Friendly Bed & Breakfast and the gals even have a “Wine away the Day” package.

Monterey County Named Top Ten Wine Travel Destination in the World

MONTEREY COUNTY, CALIF. – The Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau is proud to announce Wine Enthusiast has selected the destination as a 2013 Top Ten Wine Travel Destination in the World. Monterey County is the only California wine region to make the 2013 list.

“The wine country in Monterey County is less commercialized and provides a more authentic experience for the devoted wine enthusiast” said Tammy Blount, CEO of the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau, adding “A wine country itinerary in Monterey County is perfectly complemented with our incredible array of intimate dining options, world class shopping and spa experiences, and the most beautiful coastline in the world.”

The designation is the result of Wine Enthusiast editors who trek the globe each year in search of the most exciting places to visit. Decisions are based on overall cultural experience, timeliness, travel infrastructure, and of course wine quality in the region. The entire list is featured in the February 2013 issue of Wine Enthusiast, available on newsstands now.

“Monterey County offers so many unique and top-class experiences in not only wine and food but in everything from outdoor adventures to art to sightseeing. It has an undiscovered, offbeat, creative flair while at the same time offering very elegant experiences. We feel Monterey represents our reader – extremely modern, approachable, sincerely quality driven. Glamour without pretense. Progressive.” said Wine Enthusiast Executive Editor Susan Kostrzewa.

Monterey County has seen a stunning forty percent increase of tasting rooms in the last year and is home to over 40,000 acres of premium vineyards. Wine enthusiasts are able to take public transit to tasting rooms in rustic Carmel Valley which is home to the new East End Wine Row. Shoppers can mix finding their latest treasure with wine tasting in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Fifteen tasting rooms are now located in the walkable one square mile known for unique shops. Vineyard experiences along River Road are also gaining momentum with A-T-V rides through the vines.

“There are amazing things happening in Monterey County, especially in wine. I feel we are finally getting the recognition we deserve.” said Sabrine Rodems, winemaker of Monterey County based Wrath Wines.
